Spring is approaching and that means ensuring your commercial irrigation system is performing optimally. Setting up and preparing your sprinkler system for this season is crucial because they are responsible for making your landscape thrive. Here are some spring tune-up tips for your commercial irrigation system.

Inspect Your Main Line and Drain System

Inspect that your manual valves are closed. You might have opened them up when you drained the system in the Fall, so please check them before watering. Secondly, slowly open the main valve so the piping between it and the backflow can fill up. If you want to pressurize the mainline, open a control valve to allow the water to push out any unwanted air pockets in your commercial irrigation system.

Confirm You Have the Right Water Pressure

Another crucial part of maintaining your irrigation system is checking the water pressure settings. This is particularly significant when first booting your system. The ideal pressure range for your lawn system should be between 40 and 65 PSI.

If the water pressure is excessively high, your sprinkler heads are misting rather than spraying. This will cause the wind to blow away the water before reaching the lawn. If there is low water pressure, the water is not spraying far as it should, or you view dry areas. This happens when there is a broken or clogged sprinkler head or a leak in the lines.

Ensure Your Sprinkler Heads are Functioning

Sprinkler heads in a lawn irrigation system are often missing or broken due to different factors, like shifting soil, lawnmowers, age, improper installation, and so on. Unfortunately, your commercial irrigation system can leak and distribute water oddly across your lawn. When water from your sprinkler system is not evenly distributed between cycles, it can trigger dry and wet spots due to over- and under-watering.

This can significantly impact your lawn’s health and appearance over time. Check your sprinkler heads to learn if they are tilted or are spraying correctly. If you discover that they must be correctly angled, readjust them to ensure that your commercial landscape receives adequate coverage during watering cycles.

Flushing Your Sprinklers Eliminates Dirt and Debris
